2020 Award Season Predictions

Welcome to Episode 58 of the Back Lot 605 Podcast. This weekly podcast is based out of Sioux Falls, SD in which we discuss the latest movie news, box office results, and upcoming films. On this week’s episode, host Casey Kelderman is joined by his Killer Countdown co-host Blake Ginthan to discuss the 2020 award season. The Golden Globes, SAG, and Critics’ Choice Awards nominations have been announced. We uses some of these nominations to determine our predictions for the 2020 Academy Awards. What are your predictions for the 2020 award season?

The Box Office

Jumanji: The Next Level tops the box office with an impressive $60 million opening. Frozen II takes the number two spot with $19 million in it’s fourth week out. At number three is Knives Out with $9.2 million. Richard Jewell opens at number four with $5 million. The Black Christmas remake opens at number five with $4.4 million.

The News

The first official trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 has dropped. The trailer gives us our first look at the return of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the DC Universe sequel.

The official title for the third film in The Conjuring trilogy has been revealed. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It opens September 11, 2020.

Former Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been tapped by Warner Bros. to adapt to work of H.P. Lovecraft for the big screen. The film is rumored to be set in the 1920’s and feature many of Lovecraft’s most famous creations.

Casey Kelderman found a love for film at a very early age. One of his earliest memories of watching movies was the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS. Casey graduated from The University of Sioux Falls in 2017. At USF Casey produced weekly movie reviews and hosted a radio show. He graduated with a degree in Media Studies. Skills he learned in college have allowed him to help create Back Lot 605. He has produced and directed 4 short films. His favorite films include Halloween, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Die Hard.
