A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge – Pride Movie Series

Our 2021 Pride Series of movies doesn’t just include romantic comedies…but also 1980’s slashers! This week we are joined by Josh Korngut from Dread Central‘s Development Hell Podcast to discuss the infamous 1985 horror sequel A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge. We discuss the social subtext of the film, how it has been embraced by the gay community, and how star Mark Patton suffered the fate of the film’s legacy.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge takes place years after the original, with high schooler Jesse Walsh (Patton) moving into the room of previous final girl Nancy Thompson. Jesse is soon terrorized by the ”Springwood Slasher” Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), with the dream demon haunting Jesse burgeoning sexual desires. The film has received a reappraisal in recent years, especially after the release of last year’s documentary Scream, Queen.

The Box Office

For the third week in a row John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II tops the box office with $11.65 million. Opening at number two is In The Heights with $11.41 million. Peter Rabbit 2 opens with $10.4 million at number three. Not far behind is The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It with $10.02 million. Rounding out the top five is Cruella with $6.7 million.

The News

The Keanu-verse of John Wick 4 and The Matrix 4 each add to their already stellar casts. Joining Reeves in John Wick 4 is Bill Skarsgard, while Christina Ricci joins Keanu in The Matrix 4. In further casting news, Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood join the eclectic cast of the upcoming Toxic Avenger remake.

Two horror franchises will receive an update, that being with a few names you’d not expect. Bryan Fuller will take on the Stephen King novel Christine over 30 years after the John Carpenter cult classic film adaptation. The long rumored The Munsters reboot with Rob Zombie has been confirmed, with filming for the film set to begin soon.
