BlacKkKlansman – Spike Lee Series

Revolutionary filmmaker. Groundbreaking storyteller. Academy Award winner. All of these can be used to describe Spike Lee. As we continue our Spike Lee series we discuss the film that garnered Lee his first Oscar, with 2018’s BlacKkKlansman. Joining us is South Dakota filmmaker and videographer, Bobby Peacock of the Hazard Film Project to discuss the film, its themes, and how it can be looked a little differently a few years later.

BlacKkKlansman stars John David Washington, Adam Driver, Topher Grace, and Laura Harrier. Set in 1970’s Colorado, the first African American detective on the Colorado Springs police force starts a taskforce to infiltrate the local chapter of the Klu Klux Klan. The young detective begins an over the phone relationship with the Klan, leading to him partnering with a Jewish officer to infiltrate the organization.
