Blankman- Non-Comic Book Superhero Series

Damon Wayans, most known for In Living Color and The Last Boy Scout brings us the superhero nobody asked for. Wayans is joined by fellow ILC castmate David Alan Grier in the odd take on superheroes. This week we continue Non-Comic Book Superhero month as we are joined by contributing writer to Back Lot 605, Joe Fisher, to discuss the 1994 Damon Wayans lead film. We also take a look at this weekend’s box office results and the latest movie news!

Blankman is what happens when you have an idea too big for television. This film takes inspiration from Adam West’s 1966 Batman as well as Tim Burton’s Batman of 1989 and 1992. What if your superhero was just a misunderstood nerdy inventory who is broke but still wants to fight crime. Can he save the city? Will, his brother played by David Alan Grier be his trusty sidekick? Will Blankman get the girl? Joining Wayans and Grier in this oddball comedy are Robin Givens, Lynne Thigpen, Jon Polito, and the legendary Jason Alexander. Blankman is written by Damon Wayans and J.F. Lawton, and directed by Mike Binder.

The Box Office

Continuing its impressive box office run is Marvel’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings with $21.70 million. Keeping strong for another week, Free Guy is at number two with $5.20 million. Opening at number three is the new Eastwood film, Cry Macho with $4.52 million. At number four with $3.5 million is Candyman. Rounding out the top five is Malignant with $2.68 million.
