Candyman – Clive Barker Series

Say his name. Welcome listeners to the first episode in our October Clive Barker series! Since it is spooky season we are spending this month with a master of horror in Mr. Barker. This week we are joined by former Killer Countdown co-host, and upcoming Slash Lot 605 co-host Sam Lenz. Sam makes his debut on the main show to discuss the 1992 horror classic, Candyman. Get your mouthful of bees and hook hand ready for our 100th episode!

Candyman is written and directed by Bernard Rose, and is based on The Forbidden by Clive Barker. The film stars Virginia Madsen as Helen, a grad student working on a thesis about the urban legend of the Candyman (Tony Todd). Helen soon finds that the legend may actually be more reality than myth. Candyman is a tale of injustice, lust, and revenge.


The Box Office

In a closer weekend than most anticipated, Tenet remains number one at the box office with $2.7 million. In a close second, Hocus Pocus pulls in $1.9 million. The New Mutants remains in the top five with $1 million. At number four is Unhinged with $847,000. Lastly, Infidel takes number five with $460,000.3

The News

In a massive week of movie news, the first topic of discussion is Moonlight director Barry Jenkins has been tapped to direct a sequel to Disney’s live action The Lion King. The film is set to be a prequel/sequel, with a focus on Mufasa’s origins.

Borat 2 was officially announced last week, and we now have a release date. The sequel will release on Amazon Prime on October 23. In further sequel news, The Craft Legacy will hit VOD on October 28. The first trailer for the film dropped this week as well.

In casting news, Zac Efron has been cast in a Universal/Blumhouse remake of Firestarter. No word as of yet who Efron will play in this upcoming King adaptation. Jamie Foxx is rumored to be returning as Electro in the upcoming third Tom Holland Spider-Man film. Foxx previously appeared as the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 alongside Andrew Garfield.

Robert Zemeckis’s The Witches remake will be hitting HBO Max on October 22. The reimagined adaptation stars Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci.

No Time to Die and Dune have moved to a 2021 release date. After this announcement Regal Cinemas announced that they will be closing all 543 U.S. theaters. The closure is through the rest of 2020, but with new releases moving back weekly, the closure could end up being permanent.
