COVID-19 Movie Cancellations

Welcome to the “Premier South Dakota Movie Podcast”, where each week hosts Casey and Brian discuss the latest news, box office, and film topics from the last week. This week was a doozy! With the world coming to a halt because of the COVID-19 outbreak, everything was thrown into near chaos. Including our show. This week we decided to take a step back and recoup from all the madness in the world. We do not have a main topic for the week, rather we discuss the podcast going forward in this chaos and how the film industry has been affected.


The Box Office

In a record low weekend at the theaters, Pixar’s Onward topped the box office with $10.5 million. I Still Believe came in at two in it’s opening weekend with $9.5 million. Another new release, Bloodshot, takes in $9.3 million at number three. At number four is The Invisible Man with $6 million. Lastly, The Hunt makes it’s way to theater with a $5.3 million opening.

The News

Because of the global effect of the COVID-19 outbreak, the following films have been pulled from their original release schedule:

A Quiet Place 2


New Mutants


Peter Rabbit 2 (moved to August 7, 2020)

Fast and Furious 9 (moved to April 2, 2021)

In further news, Full Moon, the production company behind series such as Puppet Master and Evil Bong, have entered post-production on a Corona Virus film. It has no release date as of yet, but will follow a zombie outbreak because of the COVID-19 virus.

Scream 5 has found it’s director…or shall we say directors. Radio Silence, the team behind last years hit Ready or Not, will helm the sequel with writer Kevin Williamson returning to produce.

Casey graduated from The University of Sioux Falls in 2017. At USF Casey produced weekly movie reviews and hosted a radio show. He graduated with a degree in Media Studies.
