Death Proof – Kurt Russell Series

This podcast is “death proof”. Welcome back listeners to the Back Lot 605 Podcast! This week we continue Kurt Russell month as we discuss his first collaboration with director Quentin Tarantino, Death Proof! We are joined by fellow South Dakota movie podcaster and entertainer Tony Tubes for this episode! Tony is the host of Tubes World and Silver Screen Showdown on YouTube. This week’s episode may very well turn into a “showdown” between this trio of movie fans.

Death Proof is the second feature in Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse. Originally released in 2007 the film garnered mixed reviews, but in subsequent years has developed a cult status. Death Proof follows homicidal Hollywood stuntman named Stuntman Mike (Russell) as he hunts down two separate groups of young women.

The Box Office

The box office results got a little freaky with Freaky opening at number one with $3.71 million. Let Him Go drops to number two with $1.8 million. At number three is The War With Grandpa with a steady $1.3 million weekend. Come Play takes the four spot with $1.1 million. In fifth is Honest Thief knocking Tenet out of the top five with $800,000.

The News

Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) has joined the cast of The Suicide Squad. Stallone reteams with James Gunn on the project that already bolsters an impressive lineup lead by Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey) and Idris Elba (Thor).

Michael Bay (6 Underground) has announced his next project as he teams with Jake Gyllenhaal. The Nightcrawler star joins Bay’s Ambulance, which is said to be a throwback to late 90’s action movies. In further casting new, Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) will replace Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean) in the Fantastic Beasts series. After Depp’s departure last week, Mads will step in for the role as ¬†Grindelwald.

Lastly, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced that his production company will be rebooting The Scorpion King franchise. Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will produce the series, one that helped begin the big screen career of The Rock. The former WWE Champion will stay on as a producer with a new star taking over as the title character.
