The Box Office

Well hello old friend, how we have missed you. We are bringing back the box office segment to the show as studios are beginning to report box office receipts again! Kicking things off this week is the directorial debut of Dave Franco. The Rental grossed $290,000 to take the number one spot. Rounding out the box office is The Goonies at 2, Jurassic Park at 3, Back to the Future at 4, and Grease at 5.

The News

Unfortunate news at the top as we mourn the lost of big screen icon Wilford Brimley. Brimley, perhaps best known for his work in The Thing, Cocoon, and The Natural, passed away at the age of 85.

A Dredd TV show may be in the works. Rebellion, the rights holder to the property, state that a script is written for a series and is currently seeking distribution. The series would pick up after the events of the 2012 Karl Urban lead Dredd.

Courtney Cox has announced that she will indeed be making a return in the next installment in the Scream series. Cox will return as Gale Weathers in Scream 5, alongside her former partner David Arquette.

After some heated exchanges between the two, Universal Studios and AMC Theaters have reached an agreement. The two have announced a plan for the foreseeable future to shrink the theatrical to VOD gap to 17 days. This means films in theaters will be available at home for viewers in just under 3 weeks from initial release. It remains to be seen if other studios and theaters will follow suit.

Lastly, in this week’s Tenet news: Tenet will release internationally in August, with a US debut set for September 3rd. The film has been the talk of town as of late. Nolan and Warner Bross. hope to be one of the first to hit theaters when they reopen.
