Gods and Monsters Spotlight

Welcome to the final episode in our 2020 Pride Month mini-series! This week we are covering the 1998 biographical drama Gods and Monsters from director Bill Condon. This film was selected by a guest of the show, but unfortunately fell ill before we recorded the episode. Instead, Casey and Brian kick back just the two of them to discuss the latest news, what’s coming soon, and Gods and Monsters.

Gods and Monsters is written and directed by Bill Condon. It stars Ian McKellan as famed Frankenstein director James Whale during the final days of his life. The film also stars Brendan Fraser and Lynn Redgrave.

The News

We unfortunately begin the news this week on a sad note as acclaimed film director Joel Schumacher has passed away at the age of 80. Perhaps most known for his work on the the late 90’s Batman films, Schumacher also directed hits such as The Lost Boys, St. Elmo’s Fire, and Flatliners.

Speaking of Batman, rumor has it that Michael Keaton will once again dawn the cape and cowl for an appearance in the upcoming Ezra Miller Flash film. Flashpoint will feature alternate dimensions, one of which is said to be inhabited by Keaton’s Batman. This is just rumors at this point, but there is said to be talks between the actor and the studio.

A reboot of the disaster classic Twister is said to be in the works at Universal. Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is rumored to helm the project. No word yet of Tom Cruise following Kosinski over to this project, but one can hope.

Margot Robbie is re-teaming with her Birds of Prey writer to take on a new version of Pirates of the Caribbean. The films will be a spinoff of the main franchise, previously lead by Johnny Depp.

Lastly, Elizabeth Banks will take on the role of eccentric elementary school teacher Ms. Frizzle in a live action Magic School Bus film.

Furthermore, we discuss the upcoming releases of Hamilton on Disney+, Desperados on Netflix, and Metamorphosis on Shudder.
