Hedwig and the Angry Inch Spotlight

Welcome to Episode 84 of the Back Lot 605 Podcast! As we continue our LGBTQ Pride mini-series, joining us is our good friend Cory Jacobsen from Somewhat Random Movie Collection. The topic of this episode is the 2001 musical, comedy, drama Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Along with Cory we discuss the films themes, crazy musical numbers, and why the film is relatable to anyone who watches it. This is our Hedwig and the Angry Inch spotlight.


Hedwig and the Angry Inch is written and directed by John Cameron Mitchell who also stars as the titular lead character Hedwig. The film follows Hedwig, a transgender lead singer as she tours the country, following her former lover on her quest for fame. Hedwig explores sexuality, gender identity, love, loss, fame, and finding ones true self.

The News

We get our first poster and official trailer for the upcoming Bill and Ted Face the Music. Taking place nearly 30 years since Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted still have yet to fulfill their destiny and write a song that unites the world. The films stars Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, and Samara Weaving.

The 93rd annual Academy Awards have announced some major changes to this upcoming years awards. The ceremony itself will be pushed back 8 weeks from February 28th to April 25, 2021. Also, the elegibility for films this year has been pushed back from December 31, 2020 to February 28, 2021. Finally, the Academy has announced that the Best Picture category will be a set 10 pictures, instead of the fluctuating 5 to 10 nominees.
