Interview with Charlie Buhler and Jenna Lyng Adams (Before the Fire)

Before the Fire is an upcoming pandemic thriller set in the landscape of the South Dakota farmland. The film is directed by South Dakota native Charlie Buhler, and is written by the film’s star Jenna Lyng Adams. Before the Fire debuts simultaneously on VOD and in select theaters (including a half dozen in South Dakota) on August 14. We welcome both of these talented individuals to the podcast to discuss the film, what it means for South Dakota, and why the film is so personal to them both.

Before the Fire follows Ava, a television actress who escapes to her hometown in central South Dakota as an upcoming pandemic strikes the nation. Spending her days with her boyfriend’s family, Ava must face the harsh realities of her past. The film is a survivors tale, and a true testament to facing the demons of ones past. Before the Fire is the feature directorial debut for Charlie Buhler. It stars Jenna Lyng Adams, Jackson Davis, Ryan Vigilant, and Charles Hubbell. A majority of the film was shot in South Dakota, and includes the beautiful landscape and unshakable weather of the heartland. The film was conceived and shot before the COVID-19 pandemic, although much of the film mirrors reality.
