Red Dawn Spotlight

Welcome listeners to Episode 88 of the Back Lot 605 Podcast! We are now in week two of our Patriotic films mini-series for the month of July. We would be remiss if we did not tackle an infamous era in film, the 1980’s Cold War. The topic for this episode is the 1984 “Brat Pack” war film, Red Dawn. Red Dawn stars, Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson, and C. Thomas Howell. What will be our take on this ”Brat Pack” classic?

Set during the Cold War, a group of teens band together to fend off invading Soviets the only way American’s know how. This is our spotlight on Red Dawn.

The News

Speaking of Cold War era films, apparently a director’s cut of Rocky IV is on the horizon. Sylvester Stallone, the star and director of the film, has said that a longer cut of the film is out there. No word as of yet what this entails, or if the cut of the film will ever see the light of day.

Ryan Gosling’s The Wolf Man film for Universal has found it’s director. Leigh Whannel, who helmed the 2020 Invisible Man film for Universal will take on directing duties. This comes weeks after the announcement that Blumhouse and Gosling have been working on the film for the studio.

In other horror new, Universal has dropped the first look at Halloween Kills. The sequel to the 2018 Halloween film has a new release date of October of 2021. But, this first look gives fans a glance at what is too be expected in the 2021 follow up.

Lastly, Disney has found their Captain Hook. Jude Law will dawn the pirate hat and hook for an upcoming live action remake of Peter Pan. The film is directed by Pete’ Dragon director David Lowery.
