Return to Oz is written and directed by famed film editor Walter Murch in his single directorial effort. It is based on the classic Oz series from author L. Frank Baum. The film was released in 1985 and stars Fairuza Balk as young Dorothy Gale who returns to Oz after being left a mysterious key from her friend The Scarecrow. When she returns she finds Oz and The Emerald City in shambles. The land is now lead by the ruthless Nome King and his minions, including Mombi and her army of Wheelers. Dorothy must team up with her new friends Tik Tok, Jack, and Gump to save her old friends and restore Oz.

The Box Office

Tenet once again tops the domestic box office with a $6.7 million second weekend. At number two The New Mutants continues with a $2.1 million weekend. Unhinged stays in that number three spot with $1.5 million. The Broken Hearts Gallery opens with a $1.25 million weekend. Lastly, After We Collided takes in a $525,000 weekend in Canada, with Bill and Ted Face the Music with a $265,000 weekend.

The News

With box office results during theaters reopening not what studios expected, many fall releases are again being delayed. Wonder Woman 1984 and Candyman have both be removed from their scheduled October releases. WW84 will now be released on Christmas day of this year, while Candyman has moved to an unspecified date in 2021.

Reports state that Borat 2 has been shot and has been screening according to many insider sources. Sacha Baron Cohen returns as Borat after the smash success of the 2006 original film. No word yet on a release date or further plot details on the film.

The Academy has implemented a new criteria for eligibility, taking effect in 2024. These new rules are to enforce more diversity in the films nominated, both in front of and behind the camera. The rules comes after The Academy earlier this year added a new diverse group of voters to the organization.
