This week on the Back Lot 605 Podcast, Casey flies solo on the show with Brian out in Iowa doing whatever it is you do in Iowa. He is talking some of his recent watches from the past week, including Hellraiser 3 and the Austin Powers trilogy. Also, Casey takes a look at the top films at the box office and the news from the week. This includes the big news from the week, Robert Pattinson cast as The Batman.
The Box Office
In a surprising upset to the Back Lot team, John Wick: Chapter 3 tops the box office. With a $57 million opening, Wick becomes the film that tops Avengers: Endgame at the box office. Endgame inches closer to topping Avatar, with the film now less than $100 million away from becoming the highest grossing film of all time. Pokemon Detective Pikachu continues to shine at the box office pulling in $24 million in it’s second weekend.
Chris Rock announces that he will Executive Produce a new series of Saw films beginning October 2020. No director has been announced at this time. James Wan will also Executive Produce, but it has also been confirmed that his Mortal Kombat movie will begin production. The Wan produced film will begin filming this summer and set for a 2021 released date.
A couple of new trailers dropped this week. One of those is Tom Holland’s (Child’s Play, Fright Night) directed Rock, Paper, Scissors. After his release from a rehabilitation center, a serial killer returns home. The film is penned by Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller.
Two polar opposites of the horror genre have dropped new trailers. The Ari Aster directed Midsommar has released it’s second full trailer. The trailer highlights the horror that can be present in a bright blue sky. Also, Wild Eye Releasing has released a trailer for their upcoming film Clownado. The trailer showcases all the B-Movie schlock that could be present in a film about clown tornadoes. The movie drops on VOD this summer.
Robert Pattinson Cast as The Batman
Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has found their new Batman. The site reports that Robert Pattinson (Good Time, Twilight) will dawn the cape and cowl for The Batman. Pattinson will replace Ben Affleck as the caped crusader in the Matt Reeves film. The casting news has fans split. Some fans are going as far as to sign a petition to remove him from the role. Casey gives his entire thoughts on the casting and the film in the podcast.
