Welcome to Episode 43 of the Back Lot 605 Podcast! On this episode, Casey Kelderman and Brian Mensing are joined by Tales of an American Hoodrat director Brandon Lunzman. With the release of It: Chapter 2 releasing this weekend, we take a look at every film based on the writings of Stephen King. What are some of your favorite King films?

The Box Office

In a slow Labor Day weekend, Angel Has Fallen takes the number one spot with $11.5 million. The R rated comedy Good Boys takes in $9 million for the number two spot. The Lion King enters it’s 7th weekend of release and takes in over $6.5 million.

The News

Richard Linklater (Boyhood) to begin filming a 20 year project based on the musical Merrily We Roll Along. Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect) and Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) set to play leads. Linklater’s Boyhood previously took over 12 years to make.

Tigers Are Not Afraid director Issa Lopez to develop a werewolf western with producer Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water). After receiving rave reviews for her feature debut, Lopez’s Tigers will debut on Shudder later this fall.

Blumhouse to produce an original horror/comedy from Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day). The film will star Vince Vaughn and Katheryn Newton (Blockers) as a serial killer and teenager girl who switch bodies, much like Freaky Friday.

Original Halloween actress Kyle Richards to reprise role of Lindsey Wallace in Halloween Kills. This follows the news of Anthony Michael Hall joining the cast as an adult Tommy Doyle. Lindsey and Tommy are the two kids that Laurie Strode babysits in the original Halloween.

In honor of the release of It: Chapter 2, we take a look at EVERY film based on the writings of Stephen King! We look at the bad (Sleepwalkers). The good (The Mist). And the best (The Shawshank Redemption). What are some of YOUR favorite Stephen King films!? Let us know!

Casey Kelderman found a love for film at a very early age. One of his earliest memories of watching movies was the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS. Casey graduated from The University of Sioux Falls in 2017. At USF Casey produced weekly movie reviews and hosted a radio show. He graduated with a degree in Media Studies. Skills he learned in college have allowed him to help create Back Lot 605. He has produced and directed 4 short films. His favorite films include Halloween, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Die Hard.
