The History of the Universal Monsters

Welcome movie fans to Episode 68 of the Back Lot 605 Podcast! Each week hosts Casey Kelderman and Brian Mensing bring you the latest movie news, reviews, and box office reports from the past week. In honor of the upcoming release of The Invisible Man, this week’s topic is Universal Monsters. We discuss the history of these films from inception, all the way to present day monster films. The Box Office

Coming in at number one for the 2nd weekend in a row is Sonic the Hedgehog with $26 million. The Call of the Wild opens with $24.8 million at number two. At number three is Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey with $6.8 million. Bad Boys for Life continues it’s box office run with $5.8 million. Lastly, Brahms: The Boy II opens with $5.8 million.

The News

Director Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) is in talks to helm a film adaption of the popular Borderlands video game franchise. No word as of yet on when production will begin.

Actor Nicholas Cage will reprise his famous roles in Face/Off and Con Air for an upcoming semi-autobiographical film about his career.

Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson have entered talks to join the Little Shop of Horrors remake. Evans would take on the role of Orin Scrivello D.D.S. played by Steve Martin in the 1986 film. Johansson would play the love interest Audrey opposite Taron Egerton.

Director Matt Reeves gives us our first look at Robert Pattinson as The Batman. The films is expected to release June 25, 2021.

Casey graduated from The University of Sioux Falls in 2017. At USF Casey produced weekly movie reviews and hosted a radio show. He graduated with a degree in Media Studies.
