The Back Lot 605 greasers are back this week with a brand new episode in their Francis Ford Coppola series! Hosts Casey and Brian are joined by local theater manager Jack Kruger to discuss the 1983 film, The Outsiders. Backed by a star-studded cast, The Outsiders is considered by most fans of the 1967 S.E. Hinton novel to be one of the best literary adaptations of all time.
What are your thoughts on the film? Do you remember reading the novel in middle school?
The Outsiders follows Ponyboy Curtis a member of the Greasers, an outcast gang of misfits. Ponyboy along with his best friend Johnny are on the run after Johnny kills one of the members of a rival social group called the Socs. Along the way the two young boys begin to learn more about the world, and what it means to “stay gold”. The film stars Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, and Ralph Macchio.
The Box Office
For the second weekend in a row Godzilla vs Kong tops the box office, this week with $13.38 million. Nobody takes the number two spot with $2.65 million. At number three with $2.4 million is The Unholy. Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon takes in $2.14 million at number four. Rounding out our top five is Voyagers with $1.35 million.
In a relatively slow news week, we have a few pieces of casting news from the film world. Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) has been cast in the upcoming Steven Spielberg picture based on the childhood of young Spielberg. Dano has been cast in a role said to be inspired by Spielberg’s own father.
In other casting news, Naomi Watts (The Ring) is set to star in a remake of the 2014 horror film Goodnight Mommy. Watts will take on the titular role for Amazon Studios.
