Welcome to the latest episode of the Back Lot 605 podcast. This week Casey and Brian are joined by resident Tim Burton fangirl Kayla to discuss the best…and worst…of his filmography. The Schmuck Club also breaks down the box office and the news for the week.

The Box Office

Disney’s Dumbo pulls in the number one spot for the weekend with a $45 million opening. Jordan Peele’s Us continues to shine at the box office with an astounding $33.6 million in it’s second week. Captain Marvel continues to bring in audiences with $20.5 in it’s fourth week out.

The News

The news for the week was horror filled as we received the first full trailers for both Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Annabelle Comes Home. Scary Stories is based on book series of the same name that is most known for it’s horrifying illustrations. The illustrations come to life August 9th when Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark hits theaters.

Annabelle Comes Home brings back Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson to The Conjuring Universe. Gary Dauberman will jump into the director’s chair after writing all of The Conjuring spinoff films. Annabelle comes home June 28.

Blumhouse has announced that they will be remaking the 1990’s cult classic The Craft. Zoe Lister-Jones-Jones has been tapped to direct the remake. Mark Hamill has announced that he will voice Chucky in the Child’s Play remake. Lastly, Angelina Jolie is in talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals.

We breakdown the entire career of acclaimed director Tim Burton. The Schmuck Club talks their favorites from the quirky director including Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks, Sleepy Hallow, and Edward Scissorhands. Also, Casey rants about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Kayla and Brian defend Alice in Wonderland.

Casey Kelderman found a love for film at a very early age. One of his earliest memories of watching movies was the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS. Casey graduated from The University of Sioux Falls in 2017. At USF Casey produced weekly movie reviews and hosted a radio show. He graduated with a degree in Media Studies.
