Toys Made Into Movies

Welcome to the Back Lot 605 Podcast! We are the premier South Dakota movie podcast giving commentary and insight on the box office and news from the world of film. Our main topic for this week’s episode is toys made into movies. This topic originally stemmed from the PlayMobil movie that was planned to be released this weekend (it has since been moved to December of this year).

The Box Office

Coming in at number one at the box office is the third film in the Fallen trilogy, Angel Has Fallen. The Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman led film took in over $21 million this past weekend. Last week’s number one, Good Boys, took in over $11 million. The faith based film Overcomer takes the number 3 spot with $8.1 million. Finally, the final new release from this week, Ready Or Not, took in the number 6 spot with a little over $8 million.

The News

It has been announced that the Matrix 4 is happening. Lana Wachowski will return to pen the script and direct. Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss will return as Neo and Trinity. We now have an official title for Bond 25, No Time to Die. The Daniel Craig led film hits theaters April 8, 2020. Netflix has released the first trailer for the Breaking Bad spinoff film, El Camino.

In casting news Anthony Michael Hall has joined the cast of Halloween Kills as Tommy Doyle. Nathan Fillion and Steve Agee have joined the cast of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The Mortal Kombat film has cast some major players. A few of those include Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as SubZero, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade.

D23 News

D23 has brought some major news for the world of film. We get the first official image of Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil. The image shows Cruella in 1970’s punk rock-era London. The film hits theaters May 28, 2021. Disney+ has released the first poster and trailer for the Lady and the Tramp live action film. It drops the first day as the streaming service, November 12th.

In Star Wars news we get the first trailer for The Mandalorian, coming to Disney+. In other series news, Ewan McGregor will return as Obi Wan Kenobi in an upcoming Disney+ series. Lastly, a new poster and featurette for The Rise of Skywalker. The featurette gives us a final shot of Rey with a double-bladed red lightsaber.

Marvel has announced 3 new series coming to Disney+ for Phase 4. These series include She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel. No release date has been announced. Kat Dennings and Randall Park will reprise their roles for WandaVision. The last piece of news is the announcement of Sony and Marvel ending their deal to include Spider-Man in the MCU. As of now the two sides have yet to come to an agreement on a new deal.
